2022 Club Person of the Year

This year the Board has approved 2 members for the 2022 Club Person of the Year.
The 2 members were nominated for the award by Ray Seddon – Golf Captain.
- Hector Cruickshank & Mick Guinane

Since before COVID Hector and Mick have volunteered their time, energy and dedication to make Gardiners Run a better place for members and guests.
They are the ultimate “quiet achievers”, taking time almost every week to work around the course. They fill divots, fix plug marks, poison weeds, collect errant golf balls from the range, rake bunkers before pennant hosting – and any other task that will support the grounds staff and help to present the course in its best possible condition. If we let them, they would be on the chain saws, riding tractors and the like – such is their passion for the place.
They have developed a great working relationship with Rick, our Super, and Dean and his team from the Golf Shop. One of their great assets is their proactivity – they don’t need to be asked to do something. Rather they are regularly seeking out Rick with ideas and plenty of energy. They are well regarded by their fellow members and have been able to encourage others to join in with the bigger projects.
While the “dirty dozen” (a.k.a the Seniors Working Bee Team) get together every few months, Hec and Mick are on the course just about every week. And of course, are key members of that cohort.
They each have their pet projects. Hec is ever watchful for players with carry bags failing to carry sand buckets, while Mick has a one-man war on pesky paspalum outcrops.
Not only are they great clubmen, but they are also great citizens of the broader Lilydale Community.
Hector is a life member of the Lilydale Football and Cricket Clubs and is known to sneak off to mark the grounds or do much needed work at the Lilydale Oval.
Mick is has been a member of the Country Club for 39 years and is regularly seen at the golf course with a couple of grandkids in tow. He also taught a number of our members during his time as a local primary school teacher.
I am confident that their passion for Gardiners Run even tops their passion for the Geelong and Collingwood Football Clubs that they support.
